DSpace Manakin

DSpace Manakin

DSpace Manakin is a "user interface developed by Texas A&M University which supports major improvements for the DSpace system."

Manakin introduces a modular interface layer, enabling an institution to easily customize the interface according to the specific needs of the particular repository, community or collection. A repository service can be separated from its implementation my modifying its interface, making it possible to change repository platforms in the future while maintaining a consistent set of functionalities and "look-and-feel."

Features: The primary feature of Manakin is the "ability for each community and collection within DSpace to establish a unique look-and-feel that might extend outside of DSpace into an existing web presence, which is believed to increase a greater interest and buy-in from these communities.

Other features:

* Allow each community & collection to maintain a distinct look and feel.
* Separate business logic from stylistic design.
* Establish an interface level component architecture. (New with Manakin)
* Enable internationalization & localization of content.
* Provide an alternative interface that does not replace the existing JSP based interface.
